The Key to a Delicious Healthy Salad (+ 3 recipes)

Salads are amazing for our health; the raw veggies provide enzymes to help us digest and tons of fiber to promote healthy digestion. Plus those leafy greens can fill you up with healthy nutrients and very little calories.

But salads can easily get boring, can often be a bit bland, or worse, can be unhealthy if you’re not careful.

So the key lies in using a delicious (yet healthy) salad dressing!

I am a huge believer in always using HOMEMADE dressings because store bought versions come with preservatives, not to mention unhealthy oils, added sugars and often too much sodium.

Making your own salad dressing is SO easy, takes under 5 minutes to make, and you can just make one for the week. And believe it or not but using homemade dressings can make all the difference in your health and weight-loss journey.

So today I waned to share 3 of my all time favorite, go-to, salad dressings that will make any salad delicious!

Tahini Lemon Dressing

  • 2.5 tablespoons tahini

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO)

  • Juice of 1 lemon *you can also use 1.5 limes

  • 1-2 teaspoons raw organic honey

  • 1 small garlic clove (or ¼ teaspoon garlic powder)

  • Pinch of sea salt and pepper (about ¼ tsp salt and 1/8 tsp pepper)

  • Drizzle of filtered water to thin as needed

Blend all ingredients until creamy. Add water until you get your desired texture and re-blend. Taste and adjust as needed (adding more Tahini, or EVOO, or lemon, or honey, sea salt, etc.) to your liking.

Cilantro Olive Oil Dressing

  • 1/3 cup chopped cilantro (about 5-6 tablespoons)

  • 1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO)

  • Juice of ½ lemon

  • 1 teaspoon raw apple cider vinegar

  • 2 teaspoons raw organic honey

  • 1 small garlic clove, finely minced

  • Pinch of sea salt and pepper, to taste (about ¼ tsp salt and 1/8 tsp pepper)

Mix all ingredients in a small bowl/jar until well combined. Taste and adjust as needed.

Note: if you’re not a cilantro fan, you can swap cilantro for parsley and make this a parsley dressing; its equally delicious. I also often combine ½ cilantro, ½ parsley).

Everyday Antioxidant Dressing

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 1 tablespoon raw apple cider vinegar

  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard (preferably organic)

  • 5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

  • ½ teaspoon ground turmeric

  • ½ teaspoon pink Himalayan sea salt

  • Pinch of cayenne pepper

  • Optional: 1 tsp raw organic honey

Blend all ingredients until creamy. Taste and adjust as needed.
